Chris Jordan makes artwork using many small things put together to give a visual representation of American culture. This image is just a fraction of the actual piece which represents the 100+ thousand cans of soda consumed by Americans every 30 seconds.

An American Self Portrait

Intolerable Beauty

We could stop drinking so much soda, we could use canvas shopping bags, we could buy a Prius instead of a Denali. In America that is just what we do not. We do diabetes, pollution, and huge carbon footprints. Seeing it in a visual context though made me realize that perhaps this is all getting a little out of control.
